NOTICE

Update on Status of Unfair Practice Charge for County's Failure to Pay Step Movement in 2011 and 2012:

Your leadership along with our labor consultant attended a conference last week at PERC in Trenton along with representatives of PBA 243 (Sheriff's Dept) and PBA Local #77 (Prosecutor's Office) regarding the County's refusal to pay step movements. While our recent attempt to obtain a restraining order failed, the case itself is moving forward and this conference is the first step in the procedure. The purpose of the conference is to attempt to reach a voluntary settlement on the issue. After discussion with the PERC hearing officer, we put forth an offer to the County to settle this matter as well as to agree on a new contract so we could avoid extended negotiations. This offer was transmitted to Assistant County Counsel Rick Andrien who was representing the County, who then brought it back to the County to see if it would be acceptable. A few days ago our labor consultant received word from PERC that the County was not agreeable to our proposal and as such the case would be moved forward to hearing along with the other 2 cases.

The leadership is extremely confident that we will prevail in the hearing and that the County will be ordered to pay the 2011 and 2012 increments due you if you are moving through the salary guide. We know the process is long and appreciate your patience as we have no control over how fast the State moves.

    We will keep you updated.

Negotiations Update:

The negotiations committee has met and is continuing to meet formulating the Proposal for presentation to County. We hope to schedule the first meeting within the next 6 weeks.  Your negotiations committee will work hard to reach an amicable and fair agreement as quickly as possible so not to have to have the process drawn out as long as it was for our prior negotiations. We will keep you advised.

     Thank You

    Attend your F.O.P. meetings!

All members are encouraged to attend our Monthly Meetings, Third Thursday of Every Month,

In the past several years your Executive Board has developed numerous ways for you to access important information relating to your present and future employment rights along with all of the negotiated benefits available to you.

We should currently be the most informed union members in history of the FOP 34 for many reasons. We have a web site we can be accessed by ALL Members to view, employment benefits legislative issues relating to our employment, etc. There are numerous telephone numbers and e-mail addresses you can utilize to speak with your representatives and YOU’RE union.

However, one of the most important responsibilities we have as members, who together make up this critically important organization, is to attend local meetings.  At  local  lodge  meetings brothers  and  sisters  have  a  chance  to  share  valuable  information  with  each  other  and  their representative(s) about issues arising at different shifts and with different supervisors that may at some point be a threat to your job. By attending local lodge meetings we learn about what benefits we have only because we are a union and what the County and the Governor are attempting to do to limit or take away those benefits as well as what each of us can do to protect our benefits and agreement rights. The County does not want you to know about your Collective Bargaining Agreement or your rights under that Agreement! In fact, the Administrators meet regularly in an attempt to find ways to erode your Collective Bargaining Agreement and YOU'RE rights.

You work hard to earn a pay check and a portion of your paycheck is invested as dues in your union so please get involved by attending your local lodge meetings.

Someone recently said “paying union dues without being involved or attending meetings is like paying for cable television without owning a television set”. Your union needs your experience and input!

IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THAT WE MEET AND GET INVOLVED IN PROTECTING OUR FUTURES SO PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO ATTEND YOUR LOCAL LODGE MEETINGS!!!

  • A strong union is a successful union. A successful union is built upon solidarity sisters and brothers working together toward their common cause; higher wages, good benefits, good working conditions, protection from arbitrary and unfair employer action. Solidarity means strength.

  •  As a member of Local 34, you have representation at the bargaining table, working for you to obtain the best wages, benefits and working conditions we could hope for. You have the protection of a grievance process in the event you are unfairly fired or disciplined. The most important job of any Local Union is to protect their members and improve the standard of living for them.

  • Thank You for you continued support , I am looking forward to this year being a fresh start with another continued year of success for the Lodge and its Members.
